1. Soulmate

Voice-first compatibility matching

Download on App Store

If the tiring part of Hinge is packaging yourself into prompts, Soulmate removes that step entirely. A guided voice conversation replaces written prompts and photo ranking, and the app makes one introduction at a time instead of handing you a like queue to manage.

Pros

  • No prompts to write and no profile to optimize before you can be matched.
  • Compatibility comes from how you actually talk, not how photogenic your profile is.
  • One considered introduction at a time instead of rationing likes behind a paywall.

Cons

  • Smaller, newer pool than Hinge's large mainstream base.
  • Fewer public App Store ratings than established apps.
  • No browsing feed for people who enjoy picking matches manually.

5/5 · We have a lot in common
I’m using Soulmate to expand my circle of friends. It is fun to complete and beautifully designed. The AI interface accurately summarized my conversations. Let the matches begin!

5/5 · Try it, it’s worth it.
If you are single and burned out from swiping, you gotta try just one more app. I was skeptical that it was going to be like other AI dating experiences I tried, and it’s totally different. It ask you questions like therapist getting to know you, and then matches you slowly as other ppl engage with the app. It almost feels too easy, compared to all the time I put into other dating app profiles, but the match results speak for themselves. Try it.

5/5 · Easy and Fun
After nine enjoyable two minute conversation with Soulmate, my account was ready to match me with likeminded friends. A very cool system and pleasant AI experience. I can’t wait to see who it finds…Thanks Soulmate!

Dating that feels like it’s from the future for those of us stuck in the present

The most fun I have had on a dating app. Great matches. Super smart!

5/5 · In-depth and forward-thinking
The concept of conversational matching making is really interesting- the recaps it gives taught me a lot about myself as well in the process of finding a match!

Lindssssssssssssssss · 4/29/2026

5/5 · Lots of potential!
I appreciated how well the app summarized the reasons I might be interested in my first match. It definitely made me want to talk to the person!

elliottetzkorn · 4/23/2026

5/5 · Feels like the future
Soulmate is something totally new and I really like it. I love how you literally just talk to it (with your voice) and then it magically does the rest. No profiles, swiping, or shopping for people. Just occasional curated intros that feel like they’re being sent to you by a friend.

2. Bumble

Mainstream dating with more initiator control

Download on App Store

Bumble is the most direct mainstream step sideways from Hinge: a comparably large pool with clearer conventions about who opens the conversation. The tradeoff is that you are still ranking and judging profiles, just with a different rulebook.

Pros

  • Comparable pool size to Hinge with a familiar profile format.
  • Initiator conventions can reduce the volume of low-effort openers.
  • Active product updates and a large, current review base on the App Store.

Cons

  • Still fundamentally profile-and-swipe, so prompt fatigue can resurface as photo fatigue.
  • Recent reviews mention paywalls and distance limitations.
  • Less differentiated from Hinge than a real format change like voice matching.

1/5 · Banned for no reason
So I download bumble in 2019, was banned for making a joke to someone I KNEW IN PERSON for many years, then I got a new phone and number years later, downloaded again - and was banned AGAIN for NO reason. And the decision "can't be changed" I've never had problems like this on tinder or hinge. What is wrong with yall. Your support team needs to do better.

5/5 · Free version
Cool. But we should be able to chat who likes us on the free version at least

idreezjs · 6/11/2026

1/5 · Used to be good
Bumble used to be a good app to use but has lost its unique details that made it fundamentally different from other dating apps, it is Tinder Lite

Imfreeeee · 6/11/2026

2/5 · Matches in your area?
I use the free version of Bumble, and my biggest issue is that I almost never see people who are actually nearby. No matter where I am, most profiles seem to be 70+ miles away. It makes the app feel pretty useless if you’re trying to meet people in your local area. The app itself works fine, but the distance problem makes it hard to justify using regularly. If there are really that few users nearby, that’s one thing, but it often feels like local profiles are being hidden behind paid features.

jahshwkkahwg · 6/11/2026

1/5 · Times have changed
Bumble was always iffy, but now it’s absolutely predatory.

LEIGHTO · 6/11/2026

5/5 · User interface
We need a better user interface. Aside from this, I think it’s high time we get a dark mode for bumble. It’s crazy chatting at night with the bright lights

Grayslayer3313 · 6/11/2026

1/5 · App or it’s Ai is broken
After many years of use, buying the membership long term, spending plenty on add-ons, and no additional request for information from me… I was just BANNED for being underaged when I AM 33 YEARS OLD. This has wasted my money, time, and opportunities with people I was actively speaking to. This should not be allowed and I expect to be compensated for my losses!

Gilly/niner · 6/11/2026

1/5 · Just another tinder
For gay men, this is just another tinder. People match and never talk, they love bomb you with matches for the first 24 hours and then upsell, upsell, upsell. Can’t speak for str8s or how this works for women. I’ve never gotten anything but gaslit and emotionally manipulated on here. They also now want you to go thru a creepy “verification” process, I’m sure that’s just them selling your info to train AI or something gross. There’s certainly no less spam because of it. Time to find something better folks.

Drew R Hood · 6/11/2026

3/5 · So much to pay for
Why should I pay so much money to meet people. Can't even see who likes me or send people messages without paying... you might as well pay for the app to download it

3. Tinder

Fast, broad dating discovery

Tinder trades Hinge's relationship framing for raw reach. If your issue with Hinge is the pool size rather than the prompt format, Tinder is bigger, but it leans casual and gives you even less context before matching.

Pros

  • Largest pool and broadest availability of any app here.
  • Very low friction to set up and start swiping.
  • Fine for casual or exploratory dating.

Cons

  • Reviews frequently mention bots, bans, and notification issues.
  • Less relationship-intent signal than Hinge.
  • More swiping, not less, if profile fatigue was the original problem.

1/5 · app will not notify me for new messages
the app sends me notifications all the time about upgrading to gold, using boosts, all kinds of notifications daily. but the app will not notify me when i get new messages, it has to be intentional. all my notification settings are turned on, both in the app and in ios, there’s no way this isn’t intentional. dating apps are designed to keep you looking so no wonder it won’t tell you when you got a message. there’s no way to report this in the app either. already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did not fix the issue

MSF-Facility of America · 6/11/2026

1/5 · Used to love tinder
This app has changed and is horrible now everything is flooded with paid features adds fake profiles and they do a lot of shadow banning for no reason a lot of filtering out types your interested in and they would be interested in you they have ruined the app people deserve to lose their current jobs at Tinder and we the people should stop using it fr just make another app the staple for dating since they got dumb and greedy

SilesC · 6/11/2026

3/5 · My app just freezes when I open the app I tried to delete it and reinstall it but it just crashes
Hopefully we can fix it

Youngtrill · 6/11/2026

1/5 · Terrible changes
Tinder was ok then got much better with explore that could let you match with people (like for me non monogamous) then they replace it with an events beta that I can’t opt out of and I don’t know if it will ever end. Terrible. No one wants these events and I should be able to opt out. Let me choose what I want!

1/5 · Garbage
App doesn’t even work, cleared cache, reset phone, updated whatever, and it just refuses to acknowledge that my account exists on ios or browser. It was awesome buying the plus or whatever it is just to permanently lose access yo my account. Great support 🙄 And if my account was banned (not that I could even fathom a reason), I never got any notification or email for it. I can’t believe this garbage app is even able to compete with others. Waste of time and money.

Tinder randomly bans you for no reason and won't tell you why your banned.

4. Sitch

AI-assisted setups with a matchmaker framing

Download on App Store

Sitch is the closest category neighbor to Soulmate: an AI-assisted dating app that tries to reduce search and setup work. Its App Store reviews are mixed, with recent praise for the concept but repeated complaints about cost, match fit, and density.

Sitch App Store screenshot 2
Sitch App Store screenshot 3
Sitch App Store screenshot 4

Pros

  • Purpose-built around AI-assisted introductions rather than classic swiping.
  • The official site positions Sitch as live across multiple major cities.
  • A real alternative for people who want dating help, not just another card deck.

Cons

  • Recent App Store reviews repeatedly mention payment friction and thin match results.
  • The latest public reviews include complaints that preferences were not honored.
  • Apple did not expose screenshot URLs through the lookup feed during the latest fetch.

2/5 · No free option
I had a lot of hope for this app, considering I was using Amara for a while. But they do not let you chat with anyone without paying for it. It’s so silly.

Ariannadanae · 6/10/2026

1/5 · Potential matches
Potential matches don’t meet my preferences. I gave my preferences and I’ve only been shown men who aren’t what I prefer. Also I’m only getting sent 3 men a day. I could understand if they were in my preferences but they aren’t so it’s pretty much a waste of time. Why ask what I prefer if those who are potential aren’t what I desire.

Gogars · 6/9/2026

1/5 · Terrible App barely works
Doesn’t work as advertised. Paid 100+, but the service did not deliver. Founder left and abandoned the company

Hungrypikachu · 6/7/2026

2/5 · Recent update made all generic
The recent update completely changed the way the app works, now it functions like basically every other dating app except people can’t write their own profiles? I can’t even see basic info about people like if they have kids, want kids, if they drink, etc

Chienten · 6/3/2026

1/5 · Scam
It’s extremely expensive with zero matches. They claim to find you the perfect match but I’ve gone on more dates on the traditional dating apps like hinge which is cheaper too. I’d recommend everyone to save their money and stay away from this app.

1/5 · Worst dating app
Nobody look at, Nobody on this app in Ca, app always says “see you again tomorrow”, never get anybody to at least swipe on… customer service does nothing but text oh I’m sorry about blah blah blah.. be sure to tune in tmr for nothing again 🤣👍🏼

mvpogkush · 5/27/2026

1/5 · Waste of time
Literally have been on this app for 3-4 months and so far haven’t gotten a single match. It barely shows any profiles and when you try to ask for support, you get vague answers.

LunarSky0529 · 5/27/2026

2/5 · Mismatches consistently
I love the concept of this however, my preferences are not honored. It’s sending me people 25 years apart from me when my preferences are 10 years. Also connects me with people who live quite far and I have my distance set. AI is not taking feedback and there is no one to contact when something is off. Not fully prepared as a dating app yet.

Why does this website exist?

By now, just about everyone who has spent time on dating apps knows the pattern: a new app promises a calmer, more intentional way to meet people, then the same old problems creep back in. Too many profiles. Too little context. Too much guessing about who is serious, who is local, and who is actually worth meeting.

Hinge is part of that story, but it is not the whole story. People look for alternatives for practical reasons: prompt fatigue: everyone is trying to sound witty, specific, and low-effort at the same time. Some apps solve one piece of the problem and make another piece worse. Some are great in one city and empty in another. Some look better in screenshots than they feel after a week of using them.

This website is an attempt to organize, categorize, and explain the current dating app options as they exist today, using public App Store listings, screenshots, ratings, and recent reviews as the baseline. The goal is not to pretend there is one perfect app. The goal is to make the tradeoffs easier to see.
